Sembe Interns for Boston Mayor
Karina Sembe, a doctoral student in our Hispanic Language & Literatures program, interned this past summer for the Boston Mayor’s Office. She tells us about her experience below:
I completed a PhD Internship in the Humanities, a BUCH initiative. I interned in the Boston Mayor’s Office, in the Department of Arts and Culture. I reviewed the City of Boston Public Art Policies & Processes and Boston Art Commission bylaws and worked closely with the Public Art team to identify priorities and challenges in the content of the Public Art website. I made research-informed suggestions about reorganizing the layout, content, and language of the website to make it more accessible, inclusive, and action-driven. This internship was a good way to validate and refresh my narrative consulting skills as well as learn some of the things to consider during the job search to make sure my potential work environment is equitable and conducive to growth.
