RS Kicks Off a New Year!
The Romance Studies Department kicked off the 2021-2022 Academic Year with our all faculty & graduate students annual departmental orientation meeting today!
Originally planned to be an in-person event, the orientation was, sadly, moved to an online format due to the increase in Covid-19 cases in recent weeks. Nonetheless, it was a great occasion for reconnecting with colleagues and preparing for a new year of teaching and researching!
Department Chair ad interim Christopher Maurer thanked everyone for their hard work during the difficulties of the past year and acknowledged that for the coming year we will still be working in less than ideal circumstances, while also expressing confidence that our faculty and students can and will rise to the challenge. Maurer also encouraged everyone to “think continually about how language can be used,” whether language in the traditional sense of written or spoken word or encompassing a broader range of communication, such as images, and and to “teach our students to think more carefully about language.”
