Savo Publishes Article on Juan Manuel
Anita Savo, Assistant Professor of Spanish, has published an article titled “Material Afterlives of the Conde Lucanor: Asynchrony in BNE, MS 17788.”
The article offers a close analysis of a previously ignored manuscript copy of the 1642 print edition of Juan Manuel’s Conde Lucanor, used by the Spanish scholar Pascual de Gayangos to prepare his 1860 edition of the work. The textual and material histories of this manuscript illuminate the asynchrony of Gayangos’s editing practices, which combine cutting-edge philological methods with an amateur attempt to re-create the medieval past.
