Catalina Donoso Publishes Book
Congratulations to our alumna Catalina Donoso on the publication of her new book!
Donoso’s book, No somos niños: Representaciones problemáticas de la infancia, explores the problematic representations of childhood in Latin American Cinema.
The book grew out of the dissertation that Donoso completed as part of her doctoral program at BU Romance Studies. Donoso tells us:
“When I was deciding on the topic for my dissertation, it came to my attention that there is a recurrent presence of children in different Latin American movies in which the context is one of poverty and neediness. I was interested in examining their role and its symbolic potential. The long path of conducting this research was not finished with completion of my dissertation, but continued afterward. I obtained financing to continue this research when I came back to my country (Chile), providing me with a a rewarding immersion in Childhood Studies and its multiple dimensions”
Donoso graduated from BU in 2012 with a PhD in Hispanic Language & Literatures, and now works as a professor at the University of Chile.
