2 – 4 April 2020

We invite proposals for papers treating the conference theme in relation to French and Francophone culture, history, literature, music and art history in the long nineteenth century.  Our 202o conference theme also invites delegates to consider new and emerging research priorities for nineteenth-century French studies, how we are reinventing ourselves, and what we bring to and learn from engagement with the digital, the environmental, and the scientific. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Youth and old age
  • Birth and death
  • Departure and return
  • Sequels and prequels
  • Prefaces and postfaces
  • The beginning/end of times
  • (Un)happy endings
  • Revolutions
  • Tradition/innovation
  • Decadence/Renaissance

Proposals for individual papers or panels should be in the form of an abstract (c 250 words) sent as an e-mail attachment in Word to sdn.proposals@yahoo.co.uk

Panels may take a traditional (20 minute paper) format, or be more experimental (e.g. discussion of pre-circulated papers, short presentations with discussant, round table). The deadline for proposals is 30 November 2019.
