Title: Integrating the 5Cs into the Spanish Short Story Course

In this presentation I explore the role and scope of the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards in the Spanish language classroom. I will talk about how I integrate these goal areas into the instructional program of the Hispanic Short Stories course at the intermediate and advanced levels in order to help students become world-ready educated citizens. By focusing on three short stories from Latin American and Spanish authors I draw attention to the five C’s or five goal areas and look at the eleven content standards that students acquire through the course. Through various Sample Learning Scenarios I will look at how students utilize the language while learning about cultures, making connections and comparisons and become engaged in their communities.
