2026 Summer GRA (Graduate Resident Assistant) and RA (Resident Assistant) Position Information  

We are now accepting applications for Summer 2026 Graduate Resident Assistant and Resident Assistant positions at Boston University. BU students with sophomore (as of fall 2026), junior, or senior standing and graduate students are welcome to apply for a summer G/RA position. 

Residence Life will prioritize candidates who currently serve on staff and plan to return for the 2026/2027 academic year. Please read the information below before submitting an online application.

Dates of Service:  

Summer GRA and RA positions begin Monday, May 18, 2026, and conclude at 11:59 p.m. EST on Saturday, August 8, 2026. GRAs and RAs who will continue their service in the 2026/2027 academic year will conclude their summer duties on the summer to fall transition date, scheduled to take place on August 21, 2026.  

  

Summer Programs:  

This summer, Boston University will offer housing primarily to summer term students, student employees, interns, summer high school programs, Orientation, and students in the CELOP program. Though plans are still being finalized by BU Housing, students in these summer programs are likely to be housed at 610 Beacon, brownstones on Bay State Road, South Campus, West Campus, and 33 Harry Agganis Way. Applicants will be considered for all open and available positions and opportunities.

These sources provide detailed information on what working for Residence Life in the summer entails and what various opportunities are available. 

  

Important Summer 2026 Dates & Information:   

To be eligible to serve as a summer G/RA, you must be able to fulfill all the following requirements:   

  • Submit your application by 11:59PM EST on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.   
  • Attend the mandatory Summer G/RA orientation meeting on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 7:00PM.   
  • Complete the appropriate Summer G/RA hiring paperwork by the assigned dates.   
  • Attend the mandatory G/RA Training sessions on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.  
  • Serve in the RA on-call rotation in your neighborhood: 
    • 5:00PM – 9:00AM: Monday through Thursday 
    • 9:00AM – 9:00AM: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and holidays (Memorial Day, Juneteenth & 4th of July). 
  • Assist with building/program openings and closings, which may take place on weekends and holidays.  
  • Participate in Wednesday evening staff meetings from 7:00PM-11:00PM.  
  • Non-returning G/RAs must vacate their assignments by 11:59PM Sunday, August 9, 2026. More information will be available at the April 15, 2026, summer orientation meeting.    
  • Returning G/RAs serving in 2026/2027 positions will be asked to assist with summer closing and fall opening, more information will be available at the April 15, 2026, summer orientation meeting.    

Summer G/RAs who break their Summer 2026 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and resign after April 28, 2026, will not be permitted to continue as a GRA or RA for the 2026/2027 academic year.  

 

Remuneration:  

Remuneration for the Summer G/RA positions differ according to the assigned neighborhood. Typically, those assigned to work in South Campus or 33 Harry Agganis Way will be assigned to an apartment unit. Those in 610 Beacon Street or Bay State Road brownstones, will likely have a dormitory-style unit.

All G/RAs will receive a meal plan in accordance with the Summer dining hall meal periods (likely 19-meals per week) and a $1700 stipend ($850 for Summer 1 and $850 for Summer 2). Assignments differ by year depending upon building and room use.
