Overbase Teaching
Overbase teaching is any formal course assignment performed in addition to a faculty member’s base teaching load. (Examples of teaching beyond the base teaching load that do not count as overbase teaching include dissertation, thesis, directed study, or senior independent work supervision or providing a limited number of guest lectures in courses taught by other faculty.)
Faculty members who are appointed in a position in a university-wide center or institute who would like to teach in addition to their full-time responsibilities should refer to the guidelines established by the school or college for their primary academic appointment.
Staff members who will be teaching and receiving an overbase should refer to the guidelines established by the school or college where they will be instructing.
