Limited Submission Funding Opportunity: Simons Foundation: Simons Investigators in Mathematics, Physics, Astrophysics and Computer Science

INTERNAL MATERIALS DEADLINE: Friday, August 20, 2021. The Simons Investigators program aims to provide a stable base of support for outstanding theoretical midcareer scientists, enabling them to undertake long-term investigations of fundamental questions in their fields. The intent of the program is to support these scientists in their most productive years, when they are establishing new research directions, providing leadership in the field and effectively mentoring junior scientists.

Call for Proposals: Lung Cancer Research

We are seeking to fund pilot programs focused on preventing, intercepting, or curing lung cancer at early stages. Research teams from across BU are invited to apply. Pre-proposals are due by Friday, July 23. Projects will be selected by a joint steering committee for funding up to a maximum of $250,000 (inclusive of indirect costs) per year, with the opportunity to renew for a second year.

Limited Submission Funding Opportunity: Searle Scholars Program

INTERNAL MATERIALS DEADLINE: July 16, 2021. The Searle Scholars Program makes grants to selected universities and research centers to support the independent research of exceptional young faculty in the biomedical sciences and chemistry who have recently begun their appointment at the assistant professor level and whose appointment is their first tenure-track position at a participating academic or research institution.

Limited Submission Funding Opportunity: NIH Director’s Early Independence Awards

INTERNAL MATERIALS DEADLINE: July 9, 2021. The NIH Director’s Early Independence Award supports exceptional junior investigators who wish to pursue independent research soon after completion of their terminal doctoral degree or post-graduate clinical training, thereby forgoing the traditional post-doctoral training period and accelerating their entry into an independent research career. For the program to support the best possible researchers and research, applications are sought which reflect the full diversity of the research workforce.

Award Opportunity: Eppendorf & Science Prize for Neurobiology 2021

DEADLINE: June 15, 2021. The annual Eppendorf & Science Prize for Neurobiology is an international award which honors young scientists for their outstanding contributions to neurobiological research based on methods of molecular and cell biology. The winner and finalists are selected by a committee of independent scientists, chaired by Science’s Senior Editor, Dr. Peter Stern. Researchers who are not older than 35 years are invited to apply.

Limited Submission Funding Opportunity: The Mellon Foundation New Directions Fellowship

INTERNAL MATERIALS DEADLINE: July 23, 2021. New Directions Fellowships assist faculty members in the humanities and humanistic social sciences who seek to acquire systematic training outside their own areas of special interest.  The program is intended to enable scholars in the humanities to work on problems that interest them most, at an appropriately advanced level of sophistication.  In addition to facilitating the work of individual faculty members, these awards should benefit scholarship in the humanities more generally by encouraging the highest standards in cross-disciplinary research.

Award Nomination Opportunity: Science & SciLifeLab Prize for Young Scientists

Internal Materials Deadline: July 15, 2021. In order to promote young scientists early in their careers, SciLifeLab and Science magazine/AAAS have joined forces in creating a global prize awarding the best PhD thesis work in life science. An essay based on the thesis is submitted to the editorial board of Science and four winners are selected each year. As a winner, you will have your essay published by Science, receive up to 30,000 USD and be invited to Sweden where you receive your award, present your research and meet with leading scientists in your field.

Limited Submission Funding Opportunity: Camille and Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program

INTERNAL MATERIALS DEADLINE: June 21, 2021. The program supports the research and teaching careers of talented young faculty in the chemical sciences at undergraduate institutions. Based on institutional nominations, the program provides discretionary funding to faculty at an early stage in their careers. The award is based on accomplishment in scholarly research with undergraduates, as well as a compelling commitment to teaching.

Limited Submission Funding Opportunity: Edward Mallinckrodt, Jr Foundation Grants

INTERNAL MATERIALS DEADLINE: June 21, 2021. The Edward Mallinckrodt, Jr. Foundation is a private foundation that funds basic biomedical research in St Louis and throughout the United States. The mission of the Foundation is to support early stage investigators engaged in biomedical research that has the potential to significantly advance the understanding, diagnosis, or treatment of disease. Mallinckrodt Grants are competitively provided to investigators based on their proposals, selected from applicants on an annual basis. These awards are usually $60,000 per year for three years, provided an annual progress report is submitted and approved.

Limited Submission Funding Opportunity: DOS Development of Information Technology (IT) and Cybersecurity Fundamentals Course Curriculum

INTERNAL MATERIALS DEADLINE: May 28, 2021. The Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs (EAP) Office of Regional and Security Policy (RSP) at the U.S. Department of State (DOS), announces this Notice of Funding Opportunity (“NOFO”) for the development of a general education course curriculum on information technology and cybersecurity fundamentals, which would be accessible to students, young professionals, and the general public. The curriculum will publicly advertised and shared, royalty-free, to qualifying universities and educational institutions located in economic support fund (ESF) eligible countries within the Indo-Pacific region.
