INTERNAL MATERIALS DUE Friday, February 4, 2022: The Mellon Foundation’s Sawyer Seminars were established in 1994 to provide support for comparative research on the historical and cultural sources of contemporary developments. Foundation support aims to engage productive scholars in comparative inquiry that would (in ordinary university circumstances) be difficult to pursue, while at the same time avoiding the institutionalization of such work in new centers, departments, or programs.  Sawyer Seminars are, in effect, temporary research centers.

Limited Submission Funding Opportunity: DOE Energy Frontier Research Centers

INTERNAL MATERIALS DUE Monday, January 24, 2022: The DOE SC program in Basic Energy Sciences (BES) announces a re-competition of the Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC) program and encourages both new and renewal applications. Applications from multi-disciplinary teams will be required to propose both discovery science and use-inspired basic research that addresses priority research directions and opportunities identified by a series of BES workshop and roundtable reports.

Funding Opportunity: L’Oréal USA for Women in Science Fellowship Program

SPONSOR DEADLINE: Friday, January 28, 2022. The L’Oréal USA For Women in Science fellowship program awards five women postdoctoral scientists annually with grants of $60,000 each for their contributions in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields and commitment to serving as role models for younger generations.

L’Oréal USA partners with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) to manage the program’s application and peer-review process. Each year, the program attracts talented applicants from diverse STEM fields, representing some of the nation’s leading academic institutions and laboratories.

Limited Submission Funding Opportunity: SebastianStrong Foundation Discover Science Award

INTERNAL MATERIALS DUE: Friday, December 17, 2021. SebastianStrong Foundation is a 501c3 organization committed to raising awareness about and finding less toxic cures for pediatric cancers. SebastianStrong’s Discovery Science Award 2022 will be awarded to an individual or team of researchers whose proposal is focused primarily on pediatric cancers in general, or a specific pediatric cancer without a high survival rate or one with a low survival rate upon relapse. 

Award Nomination Opportunity: Raymond & Beverly Sackler International Prize in Biophysics 

INTERNAL MATERIALS DUE: Friday, December 17, 2021. The Raymond and Beverly Sackler International Prize in Biophysics is a prize that has been established through the generosity of Dr. Raymond and Mrs. Beverly Sackler. The prize is given in the field of Physical Principles of Biological Systems. This year an amount of $100,000 will be presented, with no age limit applied for the prize candidates. The prize will be awarded to the recipient(s), in person, at Tel Aviv University in May/June 2022.

Award Nomination Opportunity: Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards

INTERNAL MATERIALS DUE: Monday, December 6, 2021. The Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program supports the research and teaching careers of talented young faculty in the chemical sciences. Based on institutional nominations, the program provides discretionary funding to faculty at an early stage in their careers. Criteria for selection include an independent body of scholarship attained in the early years of their appointment (see below), and a demonstrated commitment to education, signaling the promise of continuing outstanding contributions to both research and teaching. The Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program provides an unrestricted research grant of $100,000.

Limited Submission Funding Opportunity: The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and NSF Challenge Prizes

INTERNAL MATERIALS DUE: Friday, December 10, 2021.The White House and the NSF have released a pair of challenges regarding DEI in STEM fields. The Office of Research and the Office of Federal relations are distributing these opportunities jointly, though only Systemic Strategies to Address Long-term Impacts of COVID-19 on DEI in STEM is institutionally limited.
