Three Productive Ways to Procrastinate Finals

By Sofía Vainesman, Account Supervisor at PRLab

With finals fast approaching, everyone on campus begins to hunker down in the library or nearest coffee shop to endure the long hours of studying. Between the long hours of writing flash cards and catching up on the chapters of the textbook that you never read, it’s good to take a few breaks for your mental well-being. However, when that 5-minute study break turns into an hour of taking Buzzfeed quizzes on “What Your Favorite Type of Cheese Tells You About Your Love Life,” you realize you could’ve been a bit more productive with your time.

As COM students, the job and internship hunt usually begins over winter break, so why not procrastinate studying for that random writing prerequisite you decided to put off till your senior fall semester with some productive procrastination?

Here are three different ideas for your next study break:

  1. Get that resume and cover letter in tip top shape before applying to jobs and internships this holiday

The Boston University’s Center for Career Development has great resources and templates for crafting these documents.

  1. Network, network, network!

Prior to applying to jobs, make a list of all the connections you’ve made through school, past internships, and friends. Reach out to people, even if it’s just to grab a cup of coffee, that minor interaction might lead to other connections or in’s that you never expected. In addition, make sure to update your LinkedIn and add any connections you have to relevant companies that you’re interested in.

  1. Catch up on PR news and the latest trends in the industry
