Boston University was founded to be an institution of intellectual rigor representing the highest ideals of higher education, while being open to all people regardless of background. An honorary degree from Boston University reflects our commitment to excellence and impact.

Since our first honorary degree was awarded in 1921, we have recognized individuals who distinguish themselves by making exceptional contributions in scholarship, scientific discovery, the arts, public service, humanitarian leadership, or to the University.
