Leaders Among Us: Conversations with President Gilliam

Leaders Among Us: Conversations with President Gilliam

Progress and success don’t happen automatically—or all at once. You need a plan, intentional action, and a means to measure how far you’ve come. Good advice helps, too, from people who have found ways to move forward. Hear members of our community share what they’ve learned. Meet the leaders among us.

In episode three, President Gilliam talks with Merav Opher, a professor of astronomy at Boston University and the director of the SHIELD Drive Science Center at NASA. They discuss Opher’s work on the heliosphere, creating a safe environment to discuss and debate new ideas, and leadership.

In episode two, President Gilliam speaks with Mike Eruzione (Wheelock’77), director of special outreach at Boston University and Olympic award-winning captain of the “Miracle on Ice” 1980 U.S. National Men’s Ice Hockey Team. During their chat, they discuss his experience as captain of Team USA and how he earned his teammates’ trust through respect and consistency. Mike also reflects on the honor of receiving the Congressional Gold Medal alongside his Olympic teammates.

In this first episode of our new video series, Leaders Among Us, Boston University President Melissa Gilliam sits down with first-year student and Posse leadership scholar Angel Wiley at the Howard Thurman Center for Common Ground. Over the course of their conversation, they discuss topics ranging from Angel’s own experience turning a negative into a positive, why he chose to come to BU and what he loves about it, and the importance of remembering to slow down sometimes, and practice self-care.
