BU’s PhD program in Physics prepares students for independent research through advanced coursework, close faculty mentorship, and work at the forefront of experimental and theoretical physics. Students complete 64 credits, an oral examination, a departmental seminar, and a dissertation with an oral defense. An optional MA may be earned along the way after completing 32 credits.
