Leadership Opportunities

PA Vegas (goes)
PA students join Dr. Berkowitz at the 2017 AAPA Conference in Las Vegas.

Students in the BU PA program are encouraged to seek PA student leadership opportunities with the AAPA, Massachusetts Academy of Physician Assistants (MAPA) and a variety of other PA specialty organizations. The Carl Toney Society also provides leadership opportunities ranging from traditional class leadership to society leadership as a second year student.

Several PA students serve on the program’s curriculum committee. PA students have the opportunity to participate in the medical school DRx course student advisory panels. This role provides the PA and MD students with the opportunity to provide feedback to the course directors of this second year medical student course.

Outside of the program, there are opportunities to develop advocacy expertise and lead initiatives to improve access to care for homeless patients in Boston. Our students are involved in the BU CHAMPS program which is a grant funded interprofessional education opportunity at a local community health center. Two first year students are part of a team of clinicians at Cambridge Health Alliance that is studying medication-assisted-therapy for opioid treatment.
