Sarah Garibova

Associate Director for Marketing & Communications, Center for Career Development

While I was not a first generation undergraduate, my parents’ educational backgrounds and my own academic journey were far from traditional. I was homeschooled from birth through 12th grade, attended community college part time for a while, then leaped into a large public university for my BA. I was the first person in my family to pursue a graduate degree, and it’s only in retrospect that I recognize how many of my struggles as a PhD student and early career scholar stemmed from a lack of resources, role models, and guidance. That’s why I’m a big believer in cracking open the hidden curriculum and making higher educational accessible to all. I love that my role in the Educational Resource Center now allows me to support others on their academic journeys via one on one conversations, community building, and resource sharing.

  • Personal Facts/ Hobbies/ Interests: In my free time, I enjoy knitting, baking, and traveling. As you might imagine, COVID has made that last item a bit more challenging, but it’s also pushed me to explore the local wonders of New England! Music and dance are two of my greatest joys in life, and I take full advantage of Boston’s rich cultural scene by attending as many classical, Balkan, and klezmer concerts as possible. My wife and I live in Brighton and dream of one day adopting a parrot and a dog.
