Emergency Response Exercise Planned for NEIDL
March 19, 2013–On Wednesday, March 27, 2013, a discussion-based emergency response exercise will be taking place at Hiebert Lounge, located in the School of Medicine, as part of its ongoing safety and training program.
In this exercise, laboratory and Boston University (BU) staff, working with on-site and off-site responders, will be given a security scenario to discuss how they would respond.
The participants in this exercise include NEIDL researchers and operations staff as well as representatives from Boston Emergency Medical Services, Fire and Police Departments and the Boston Public Health Commission. Please note that BSL-4 research is not being conducted at the NEIDL, and will not commence until the completion of several regulatory and judicial steps.
The exercise will not affect neighborhood traffic however, there may be a number of emergency response vehicles at the NEIDL during this training.
Over the next few months, Boston University will re-assemble the team that is participating in this exercise and expand the training to a hands-on full scale operations based exercise. Following each exercise, the team meets to review the responses and critique the participants’ responses in order to continuously improve response and related training.
