Members Appointed to Community Group for National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories at BU

(Boston) -Three members were appointed to fill the open positions on the six-member Community Liaison Committee (CLC) of the National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEIDL). Two current members were reappointed and one new member was chosen by Karen Antman, MD, Provost of the Boston University Medical Campus and Kate Walsh, President and CEO of Boston Medical Center.
Formed to promote public participation and transparency in the operations and activities at the NEIDL, the CLC facilitates collaboration, cooperation and information exchange between the NEIDL and the community. Members meet monthly and serve on a volunteer basis for staggered two year terms.
The two reappointed members are:
— Dolly Battle – Ms. Battle is a Roxbury Resident who holds memberships in several community-based organizations including the Roxbury Neighborhood Council, the Whittier Street Tenant’s Association and Safety Net, a coalition of public housing residents and others in Roxbury that works to develop a voice and vision for equitable metropolitan development and a sustainable Roxbury community.
— Michael Kozu – Mr. Kozu is a community organizer with nearly forty years experience. He has spent more than a decade at Project RIGHT, an organization that promotes involvement in neighborhood stabilization and economic development in the Greater Grove Hall neighborhood.
The new member is:
— Linda Lukas – Ms. Lukas is a South Boston resident and member of the Dockside Place Condominium Board, the oldest condominium in the Innovation District, formerly known as the Fort Point Channel neighborhood. She holds memberships in several professional organizations including the Massachusetts Alliance for Economic Development, the Urban Land Institute and the International Facilities Management Association.
The CLC assists the NEIDL leadership with effective communication and collaboration on programs and activities that involve the NEIDL and the community and advises the NEIDL Executive Committee on areas of community concern.
The NEIDL is part of a national network of secure facilities whose mission is to perform cutting-edge basic and clinical research on emerging infectious diseases; provide state-of-the-art training in these areas of research; and establish a research facility with the highest attention to community and laboratory safety and security.
