Boston, MA—Three current members have been reappointed to membership on the Community Liaison Committee (CLC) of the National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEIDL).
Twenty applications were received for three open positions on the six-member CLC.
Appointments to the CLC are made by the Provost of the Boston University Medical Campus and the President and CEO of Boston Medical Center. Membership terms will run from June 2009 through May 2011.
The CLC members whose terms expired reapplied for membership on the CLC and were reappointed. They are:
—Dolly Battle – Ms. Battle is a community advocate who holds memberships in several community-based organizations including the Roxbury Neighborhood Council, the Whittier Street Tenant’s Association and Safety Net, a coalition of public housing residents and others in Roxbury that works to develop a voice and vision for equitable metropolitan development and a sustainable Roxbury community.
—Michael Kozu – Mr. Kozu is a community organizer with nearly forty years experience. He has spent the past twelve years at Project RIGHT, an organization that promotes involvement in neighborhood stabilization and economic development in the Greater Grove Hall neighborhood.
—Sandra Silver, Ph.D. – Ms. Silver has more than twenty years experience as a scientist in the biotechnology industry. A virologist by training, Ms. Silver is the former President and current Treasurer at the Ellis South End Neighborhood Association.
The Community Liaison Committee was formed to promote public participation and transparency during construction and operation of the NEIDL. CLC members provide outreach and feedback to facilitate information flow between the NEIDL and the community. Chosen through an open, self-nomination process, members of the CLC meet monthly and serve without remuneration for staggered two-year terms.
