Liz Hoveland

Library Communications Specialist

Elizabeth “Liz” Hoveland is an archivist and digital communications professional based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She holds a Master of Science in Library and Information Science from Simmons University, with a concentration in Archival Management (completed in May 2026), and a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University in History and Studies of Women, Gender, and Sexuality, with a minor in Government (completed in May 2022). Her senior honors thesis examined feminism within the Republican Party from 1972 to 1980.

Her archival experience also includes a processing internship at the Wellesley College Archives, where she processed the papers of the late Wellesley professor Peter Fergusson and produced a DACS-compliant finding aid; as a freelance research assistant, she supported historians Jane Kamensky and Clara Bingham on projects drawing from the Schlesinger and Conway Libraries.

Liz’s communications career began as an undergraduate at Harvard, where, as Digital Media Content Coordinator for the Harvard College Department of Communications, she grew the @HarvardCollege Instagram account from 2,000 to 200,000 followers through student features, organization takeovers, and interactive storytelling. She also drafted the grant proposal for and helped launch Harvard’s centralized University Events Calendar, and consolidated campus-wide announcements into weekly digest emails reaching over 24,000 students, parents, staff, and faculty. She also managed social media channels for Harvard Library during her senior year of college.

As Digital Communications Coordinator at Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, she developed and coordinated weekly email communications to more than 100,000 stakeholders, as well as managed digital analytics reporting across web, social, and email channels.

Most recently, as Social Media Manager at Wellesley College, she managed the institution’s presence across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Threads, X, BlueSky, and TikTok, building campaigns around the college’s 150th anniversary — including multiple video series, a commemorative pin collection, and photographic research for the celebratory book Now & Ever: 150 Years of Making a Difference.

Liz currently serves as the Library Communications Specialist at Boston University Libraries, where she leads social media content creation and management, event promotion, and graphic design for the library system, with a strong student-facing focus. She works to spotlight the university’s archives and special collections for a broad campus audience, and manages a team of student workers in support of these efforts.
