Census 2020 and Statistics in Schools Program

September 25th, 2019

in Pickering Educational Resources Library

The Census is happening again in 2020, and there is a countdown clock on the new 2020Census website.  The Census is very important because the data collected then goes into shaping policy for a wide variety of purposes: from federal funding distribution, to state and local redistricting; from community-based programs, to school funding; for use by scholars and research institutions, and for many other purposes.

Another Census effort – the Statistics in Schools Program – offers great activities for different grade-levels (elementary grades, middle school, and high school) to get involved with the data collected by the agency.

The Census is also currently offering the Opportunity Project Prize Challenge.  The program will award $100K to advance digital products that use open data to solve critical problems for Americans. The deadline to apply is November 1, 2019.
