in Pickering Educational Resources Library

Featured source: Scholastic New Teacher Survival Guide

Scholastic has put together an easy website to use for pre-K to 12th grade teachers, filled with fun activities meant to build classroom culture in the first few weeks of school.  Examples of articles, booklists, and other items available through the September list on this guide include:

  • Tips for New Teachers: The First Day of School;
  • Creating Classroom Rules Together;
  • Bookshelf Bests: Novels About Facing Challenges for Middle Schoolers; and,
  • Classroom Activities: Welcome Back Elementary Students.

All of the listed items can be easily searched at the bottom of the page.  This new teacher resource is listed as a link for Lesson Plans on our Teaching research guide.  Many other resources exist for helping new teachers adjust to the demands of the profession: please feel free to consult with our Education Librarian for suggestions.
