BU Study Group to Host Software Carpentry Inspired Workshops
Every year people across all disciplines discover how useful it is to have programming and statistical computing skills in their toolkits, though teaching yourself everything can be a daunting concept. To address this, an organization called Software Carpentry was founded, focusing on building crowdsourced software lessons and fostering a community of trained teachers. From the BU Study Group, Will Kearney, Chris Holden and Alexey Shiklomanov will host hands-on sessions throughout June inspired by lessons they’ve learned from Software Carpentry, followed by an informal “Hacky Hour” at the BU Pub. Be sure to register and bring a laptop to STO 132, 1:00-4:00 pm on the following dates:
June 2nd: Introduction to Unix and the Shell
June 9th: Introduction to R – Part 1
June 16th: Introduction to R – Part 2
June 23rd: Introduction to Version Control with Git
