Jennifer Gunter King is the Associate University Librarian for Academic Engagement and Special Collections. She oversees the Libraries’ Academic Engagement division including Subject Liaisons and Library Experience departments. She also leads the African Studies Library, the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center, and the digital initiatives program and facility, Digital Ventures, which works to expand the global reach of BU’s impactful research and distinctive collections.

Her passions include advancing user-centered library design, the accessibility of archival and library resources, and innovative 21st-century library services.

Jennifer brings a wealth of experience to the BU Libraries, serving most recently as the Director of the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library at Emory University. Prior roles include directing the Hampshire College Library and the Mount Holyoke College Archives and Special Collections, both part of the Five College Libraries Consortium.

In these roles she has led collaborative and innovative library service design, many of which have been funded by granting agencies and foundations, including a Mellon-funded Virtual Reading Room project and NEH-funded Wayfinder project; a Mellon-funded Knowledge Commons, and NHPRC-funded Electronic Records Project.
