Since February is Black History Month, we wanted to highlight some databases you have access to all year through BU Libraries:
Black Abolitionist Papers
Search through over 15,000 primary sources from African Americans involved in the movement to end slavery in the United States between 1830 to 1865.
Black Drama: 1850 to Present
Contains approximately 1200 plays by 200 playwrights and includes selected playbills, production photographs and other ephemera related to the plays.
The HistoryMakers
A digital collection featuring over 148,163 stories from oral history interviews with 2,691 historically significant African Americans.
Selected Online Works by Civil War Era African American Women
Includes biographies, autobiographies, children’s books, poetry, non-fiction, and fiction works.
Slavery and the Law (1775-1867)
Includes petitions and laws that help document the realities of slavery in the United States.
The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Database
This database has information on almost 36,000 slaving voyages that forcibly brought over 10 million Africans to the Americas.
