Lavender House

We are very excited to announce that in collaboration with BU Housing, Residence Life, and Undergraduate Affairs, the LGBTQIA+ Student Resource Center is opening a specialty community house for the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies.

Lavender House will open on 165 Bay State Road this fall.

Mission Statement

Lavender House is a living learning community for the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies. Lavender House aims to create a gentle and affirming environment that supports students’ identity development and fosters a sense of community outside of the classroom. Connected to the LGBTQIA+ Student Resource Center, Lavender House facilitates the development of community through programming that encourages students to find themselves and recognize themselves in others. As they gain an understanding of their inner world and build connections with their peers, students will work together to envision and implement more sustainable and equitable ways of living.

Learning Outcomes

  • Residents will understand how the intersections of identities impact their everyday experiences, gaining valuable insights into the diverse perspectives that shape their world.
  • Residents will cultivate meaningful connections with fellow students and faculty members beyond the traditional classroom setting, fostering a supportive and inclusive community outside of academic pursuits.
  • Residents will engage with the profound philosophies and teachings of influential leaders such as Howard Thurman, Kimberlé Crenshaw, bell hooks, Judith Butler, Sara Ahmed, and José Esteban Muñoz, gaining a deeper understanding of the complexities of identity development and the evolution of intersectional social justice movements.
