LGBTQIA+ Scholar Series Lecture - Explaining Differences in Anti-LGBTQ+ Backlash in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean |
Featuring:
- Timothy Longman, Professor of International Relations and Political Science and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Pardee School of Global Studies
- Taylor Boas, Professor of Political Science and Latin American Studies and Department Chair of Political Science, College of Arts & Sciences
LGBTQ+ rights have expanded dramatically over the past several decades, including in many parts of the Global South, but national trends have been uneven, thanks in part to a conservative backlash in many countries. Based on a series of case studies, we seek to explain the limited success in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) in contrast to the relative success of the backlash against LGBTQ+ rights in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The Scholar Series, a signature program of the LGBTQIA+ Center for Faculty & Staff, is a monthly, facilitated virtual space where BU scholars showcase their recent LGBTQIA+ scholarly research. This year’s Scholar Series theme is Meeting This Moment.
Open to all BU faculty, staff, and students.
