Hetairas y poetas somos hermanos’: la poesía nocturna y sus personajes marginales (12.01.21)

Please join us at the Pardee School (121 Bay State Road) on WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 1, at 2 PM for a presentation by Latin American Studies Visiting Researcher Jaime Puig. Jaime is a PhD candidate in the Department of Spanish and Hispano-American Literature at the University of Seville. The presentation will be in Spanish.

Abstract:

Mi intención sería la de hacer un repaso por los diferentes personajes que aparecen en la poesía española e hispanoamericana desde el romanticismo en el marco de la nocturnidad y que se presentan al margen de la sociedad, oprimidos, sojuzgados por un sistema que los relega al mundo de las sombras. Concretamente, analizaría tipos como el enfermo, el borracho, el suicida, la prostituta, el homosexual, el obrero y el artista a través de textos de Manuel Acuña, Rubén Darío, Juan Ramón Jiménez, Xavier Villaurrutia y Octavio Paz.
