Event Highlights: Collision of Worlds Book Presentation

This book presentation of David M. Carballo’s new book, Collision of Worlds: A Deep History of the Fall of Aztec Mexico and the Forging of New Spain, was hosted by the Center for Latin American Studies at Boston University and took place on Friday, October 23, 2020.

The book offers a unique perspective on the history of encounter, with a focus on the physical world of places and things, their similarities and differences in trans-Atlantic perspective, and their interweaving in an encounter characterized by conquest and colonialism, but also resilience on the part of Native peoples.

David Carballo was joined by presenters David H. Colmenares, Assistant Professor of Spanish at Boston University; Jaime Marroquin, Associate Professor of Spanish at Western Oregon University; and Matthew Restall, Edwin Erle Sparks Professor of Colonial Latin American History and Director of Latin American Studies at Penn State. The event was moderated by Adela Pineda, Director of the Center for Latin American Studies and Professor of Spanish.
