Film Screening and Director Talk with Guilherme Whitaker (09.23.16)

Join us for an evening with Guilherme Whitaker, director of Brazil’s largest independent film festival, the “Mostra do Filme Livre” (MFL). The festival takes place in the cities of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Brasília and others. In 2016, the MFL screened 200 films, ranging from shorts and experimental pieces to features and documentaries. Whitaker is also a producer and film director, having worked on more than 50 shorts from digital to 35mm.

His short “Instante Karma,” which examines the kidnapping of a film release print by the Brazilian police, will be screened for the audience with English subtitles and a Q&A will follow.

Moderated by Rodrigo Lopes de Barros, Assistant Professor of Spanish and a specialist on avant-garde cinema and contemporary art in Cuba and Brazil.
