Unitas Ensemble Presents: A Journey to the Tropics (02.20.16)

Boston, MA- January 25th- Unitas Ensemble, Boston’s Latin American Orchestra, presents an afternoon of works for chamber ensemble written by Latin American composers based in Boston. Artistic Director Lina Gonzalez will be joined by two phenomenal soloists; Latin Grammy-winning violinist Saul Bitran, and East Boston local tenor David Rivera.

The program will feature Osvaldo Golijov’s string nonet Last Round, Paul Desenne’s Two Seasons of the Caribbean Tropics, and a world-premiere of Luis Ruelas Romo’s Resilience: Music for Thirteen Musicians. The program will also feature Tanglewood alum Alberto Ginastera’s Cantos del Tucuman, as part of their Ginastera Centennial Celebration.

“This concert explores the dualities of these works, especially the duality of the Desenne, which highlights the dry and wet season of the Tropics,” says Gonzalez. “The exciting and fiery music of Latin America we have in store will offer our audience an escape from the cold Boston winter we have.”

Tickets range from $5 to $45, and are available at unitasensemble.com.
