Working Paper Series
Initiative on Cities Working Paper Series
To help publicize and promote academic research on cities or urban populations, the Initiative on Cities is launching a working paper series featuring work by BU affiliates. The IOC will create an online repository of working papers, which will help increase the visibility of academic work and provide a useful portal for reporters, scholars, and others seeking cutting edge work on cities and urban issues.
Submissions
Any BU faculty, BU graduate student, or BU Center Visiting Scholar or affiliated researcher may submit a working paper. The Initiative strongly encourages recipients of our Early Stage Urban Research Awards to submit working papers focusing on their research.
The style and structure of working papers may vary substantially across disciplines and project types; works such as academic articles, policy reports, or book chapters would all make for good working papers. Working papers should be polished, completed works, generally at the stage where they could be submitted to journals or conferences, depending on disciplinary standards.
Copyright for all working papers remains with the author of the work; by submitting, the author confirms that they own the copyright to the paper and have the right to publish.
Working papers should be submitted in PDF format using our online submission form. Submissions should include the paper’s title; author(s) and contact information; and a brief abstract and keywords. Papers will be reviewed by the series editor (initially, Professor Maxwell Palmer) with consultation, where appropriate, by faculty in relevant disciplines. The IOC will add a cover page to the paper, assign a series number, and post it in the IOC Working Paper Series collection (via OpenBU). The IOC will also promote the working paper through our website, social media channels, and newsletters.
