Sean Waddington

Student Office Assistant

Sean (he/him) is a senior at the College of Arts & Sciences, pursuing a BA in political science and sociology. He has been with the IOC as an Office Assistant since his freshman year at BU. As a burgeoning urbanist and policymaker, he enjoys working with the full-time staff to further explore urban issues, supplementing his education with experience in office work and academia.

Outside of the IOC, Sean is an active political organizer for progressive issues in electoral politics and community circles. He has been a part of major electoral gains in New York politics from as young as 17. He helped elect Samra Brouk to the State Senate in 2020, flipping his Upstate NY district and securing a Democratic supermajority in the legislature’s upper chamber. He returned to the campaign as a staffer in 2022, where he helped prove that progressives can win upstate, deliver results, and hold their seats. In 2023, Sean worked as the Policy Fellow for City Councilor Kendra Lara. In collaboration with Councilor Lara, he managed a portfolio of policy proposals, authored hearing orders and ordinances, and helped see through the FY 2024 City of Boston Operating Budget.

His passion for organizing continues on campus, starting with BU College Democrats where he has held various positions, including President. In this role, Sean has had the opportunity to knock on doors for local candidates, lead phone banks for pivotal races, and organize events with high-profile speakers from former congressional candidates to Boston City Councilors. He’s also been fortunate to co-organize protests and calls to action on issues like gun control, divestment, and worker’s rights. Sean was also elected to the Student Government Senate where he continued his student activism in collaboration with Starbucks Workers United.

In his free time, Sean enjoys listening to or making music with his acapella group, riding the T, and taking long walks on the esplanade!
