In response to the region’s escalating housing crisis, Massachusetts passed the MBTA Communities Act in 2021. The law faced its first significant test in 2023 as rapid transit communities worked to pass zoning changes compliant with the law. In some places, plans faced significant opposition. Join Boston University’s Initiative on Cities for a panel about this process, moderated by Professor Katherine Levine Einstein with public officials and housing advocates, including:

Hear from these experts about lessons learned in these communities as the state prepares for the MBTA-C rollout in the commuter rail cities and towns. Opening remarks will be provided by Jacob Love Esq., Attorney with the Lawyers for Civil Rights, who will discuss the current legal landscape and role of the MBTA Communities Act in advancing racial justice in Massachusetts.
