Professor Goldfarb Awarded Fulbright for IOC-Funded Project

Dr. Jillian Goldfarb, Research Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering, was recently awarded a Teaching/Research Fulbright for her project “Global Insights into Sustainable Energy Engineering and Sustainable Solutions for Municipal Solid Waste Management.” Professor Goldfarb will complete her Fulbright appointment at the University of Trento, Italy in Spring 2017.

At the University of Trento, Professor Goldfarb will develop a Sustainable Energy Engineering course for the Energy Engineering Graduate Program. The course will train students to combine fundamental engineering skills with life cycle and policy analyses to evaluate the sustainability of renewable energy systems. The course will subsequently be taught at Boston University to complement the University-wide minor in Sustainable Energy and College of Engineering concentration in Energy Technologies.

Professor Goldfarb will also collaborate with Dr. Luca Fiori at the University of Trento to address municipal solid waste (MSW) to energy conversions. The international team will probe how to transform MSW to biofuels while simultaneously producing adsorbent materials that can remove pollutants from water.
