2015 IOC City of Boston Summer Fellow Announced

The Initiative on Cities is proud to announce that Molly Lawrence (SPH, ’15) has been selected as the 2015 City of Boston Summer Fellow. A Masters in Public Health candidate concentrating in Social and Behavioral Health Sciences at Boston University’s School of Public Health, Molly will work with Mayor Martin Walsh’s Office of New Urban Mechanics to improve city services through civic innovation.

Rather than sticking to the status quo, the New Urban Mechanics seek novel solutions to everyday urban problems, from reporting graffiti and fixing potholes to streamlining school bus services and engaging local artists in rethinking public spaces. Molly follows Cortney Tunis (SMG ’15), the 2014 IOC City of Boston Summer Fellow, who worked with the New Urban Mechanics to develop an app that promoted local businesses during farmers market’s in Boston’s Roslindale neighborhood.

Molly was chosen from a group of competitive candidates. Her Fellowship will run for 8 weeks from mid-June to mid-August, and she will join her fellow Summer Fellows in the Fall of 2015 for a panel discussion on their experiences within local government.

We look forward to announcing our other 2015 Summer Fellows soon. Be sure to visit our Future Leaders page for more information on IOC Fellowships and other opportunities to help shape the next generation of urban leaders.
