#TerrierMade: The Green Line Groupe aims to optimize the trade-signaling industry
Christian Calabresi (Questrom’23) has been interested in stock trading for years. It wasn’t until recently when he grew more confident in his ability to understand the changing markets that he realized he could help others too. Since then, he and a team of peers have been building The Green Line Groupe, a startup that aims to optimize the new market of trade-signaling.
INNOVATE@BU: How do you create innovation and what problem are you hoping to solve?
CHRISTIAN CALABRESI: The Green Line Groupe, Inc. is a startup venture which strives to transform the newly-formed industry of trade-signaling, a practice that notifies its consumers when it’s a good time to enter or exit a trade.
Our application aims to optimize the delivery of in-depth trade analysis and signal alerts from expert analysts to their clientele. Such a platform will be the first to package a variety of proprietary features, designed to suit the needs of this growing industry and their business structures.
Tell us, where did the inspiration for The Green Line Groupe come from and how did you get started?
As someone who has paper-traded for years, personally invested for over a year, and is concentrating their undergraduate studies around their propensity for finance, my passion for the markets really inspires me to work on this project.
My friends quickly began being interested in equity trading, as I offered them free advice on when to enter or exit on a trade. After gaining some confidence in my trading, I wanted to take it to a more commercial level and charge members of my group chat a monthly subscription. Little did I know, there was a growing industry forming, consisting of subscription-based analyst groups.
As I tried to commercialize my signaling practice, I quickly realized that there were many flaws with the current practices that companies use to get their signals to their members. Each platform failed to offer features designed for these businesses and establish themselves as legitimate trading tools. It was at this point that I decided to take The Green Line Groupe, Inc. in a new direction. Together with my friend Ji, we recruited a team of software engineers and now we are in the works of developing our innovative solution to bring about the first platform designed for the options signaling industry.

What has been the biggest challenge or obstacle you had to overcome while getting started?
Once we had our initial idea, we were unsure how to go about building an actual startup venture with a smoothly operating work environment.
However, through intensive planning, communications, and research, Ji and I were able to set up a comprehensive strategy that structured the development process of our application as well as future business scaling. We learned how to properly manage and lead a team towards completing weekly sprints and consistent progress, all while building a sense of community within our company.
How about your biggest win so far?
Our ability to inspire our team members to truly see the value and potential in our project is what I would consider being our biggest success thus far. It is incredibly motivating to be working with a group of students that share the same drive and passion to see this through.
What advice would you give to someone starting their own innovation journey right now?
Fall in love with your idea. Talk about it every chance you can! It encourages you to continuously build your ideas while finding the right people to collaborate with and take this innovative journey with you.
What meaningful impact are you hoping to create from this venture? What are you and your team working on to get there?
We hope that our platform serves as a ground-breaking catalyst in this growing industry, enabling users to feel more comfortable engaging in the markets while attracting new investors who may be interested in the idea of trading but are too intimidated to step into the market themselves. This application will simultaneously help expand this growing industry while reducing diluted signaling methods and allowing businesses to reach a larger demographic.
What resources have been most helpful to you along the way?
My close relationships with professors and the culmination of my team’s skills have allowed The Green Line Groupe, Inc. to reach its current stage in development.
Now, we are on the Innovation Pathway and with the support of Innovate@BU, and we hope to take every opportunity to learn and advance our ideas. So far, they have put us on a path filled with mentorship opportunities and great resources.
