Amalia Pérez-Juez holds a BA/MA in History and a PhD in Archaeology from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid after having studied in France (Université de Grenoble and Poitiers) and the United States (Boston University). Currently, she is the Director of the Boston University Study Abroad programs in Spain where she is responsible for the academic and social integration of American students, as well as leading a team of staff and instructors at BU Madrid. She also teaches History and Archaeology of Spain, supervises program operations, and works closely with Boston University faculty and administrators to keep the curriculum in Madrid up-to-date.

Amalia is also a faculty member in the History Department at BU, and History is her passion. For more than twenty years she has been teaching and researching archaeological sites in Spain, from the Iron Age to the 20th century, in order to contribute to the study of History through the lens of material culture. She is also a specialist in the management of cultural heritage, an inseparable part of her research, which she was able to develop by directing the Cultural Management Area of ​​the Atapuerca Foundation, a World Heritage Site in Human Evolution. Amalia is also an affiliated faculty member in the Archaeology Program at BU, where she studied as a doctoral student, and spent a year as a visiting professor. In 2001 she had the opportunity to co-direct the first systematic excavation of a Spanish Civil War site, Casas de Murcia, near Madrid. She has published numerous books and articles and, since 2001, co-directs the Boston University archaeological project in Menorca, Spain, where she is dedicated to the research of this unique UNESCO Biosphere Reserve island. Her publications are primarily focused on Spain and the Mediterranean, as well as teaching and communicating Spanish History. Amalia is also an active member of ICOMOS Spain.
