Latin American history
Professor Véliz has held the Chair of Economic History on the Faculty of Economics at the University of Chile and was Professor of International Politics at the Chilean War Academy. In 1972 he was awarded the Chair of Sociology at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia. He is the author of a number of books, including Historia de la Marina Mercante de Chile, The Centralist Tradition of Latin America, and The New World of the Gothic Fox: Culture and Economy in English and Spanish America. Until 2002 he was Director of the University Professors at Boston University.
