Orran Krieger, PhD
Director, MOC Alliance Director, Red Hat Research Professor, ECE and SE
Orran Krieger is the Director of Red Hat Research (while on leave of absence from Boston University), Director of the Mass Open Cloud Alliance, and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and of Computer Science at Boston University.
Krieger’s research interests, broadly, are in computer systems, with focus on operating systems, file systems, and cloud computing. As co-founder and PI of the Mass Open Cloud (MOC), he leads efforts to create an open, distributed platform for AI/ML workloads. The MOC establishes a new model for public clouds where multiple stakeholders participate in implementing and operating the infrastructure, creating a multi-sided marketplace. At Red Hat Research, Krieger works with the global research team on advancing open-source cloud platforms for the AI era.
Before coming to BU as an Institute Fellow, Krieger spent five years at VMware starting and working on vCloud. Prior to that, he was a researcher and manager at IBM T. J. Watson, leading the Advanced Operating System Research Department. Orran obtained his PhD and MASc degrees in Electrical Engineering at the University of Toronto.
