Joyce Y. Wong, PhD

Joyce Y. Wong is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Materials Science & Engineering, and Inaugural Term Distinguished Professor of Engineering at Boston University’s College of Engineering. She holds a PhD and S.B. in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT. Her research focuses on developing biomaterials to diagnose and treat maternal and child health conditions, with active work in pediatric vascular tissue engineering, organ-on-chip models of the placenta and fallopian tube, and precision nanotechnology solutions for women’s reproductive health. Additional research interests include theranostic agents for abdominal surgical adhesions and contrast-enhanced imaging using ultrasound and MRI. Dr. Wong is widely recognized for her contributions to the field, having served as President of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and as President-Elect of the Society for Biomaterials. She is a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Biomedical Engineering Society, and several other leading scientific organizations.
