Emily Kim is a Ph.D. candidate in the Bhatnagar lab studying microbes in the urban environment. Kim is using mathematical models to describe the tripartite interactions between mycorrhizal fungi, plant pathogens, and oak trees. Kim is also designing synthetic microbial communities to help young urban trees grow and fight pathogens through an AI-based computational pipeline. Outside of the lab, Kim enjoys playing volleyball, snowboarding, and being outdoors.
