Douglas Densmore is a Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Materials Science Engineering at Boston University. He is the Director of the Cross-disciplinary Integration of Design Automation Research (CIDAR) Group and the Founding Director of the Design, Automation, Manufacturing, Processes (DAMP) Lab. He is also a Tegan Family Distinguished Faculty Fellow, a Senior Member of IEEE and ACM, a 2013 NSF CAREER Award recipient, a 2012 Hariri Institute Junior Faculty Fellow award recipient, among other honors. He was awarded his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley.
Densmore’s research focuses on the development of computational and experimental tools for synthetic biology tools for synthetic biological systems. His approaches draw upon his experience with embedded system-level design and electronic design automation (EDA).
He has co-founded three commercial synthetic biology-based companies in the Boston area. He is also the founder of STEM Pathways, an organization dedicated to student mentorship and outreach.
