Institute Hosts CS Student Poster Session: Data Mechanics

The Hariri Institute is pleased to host a student poster session Friday, April 28th from 3-5PM. The event will feature 25 group projects completed by students enrolled in the spring iteration of CS 591 L1 (“Data Mechanics”), a computer science course taught by Andrei Lapets, CS Lecturer and Director for Research Development and SAIL at the Hariri Institute for Computing.

Principled Tuning for Large-scale ML Systems, given by Ioannis Mitliagkas, PhD scholar, Statistics and Computer Science, Stanford University.

Institute Hosts 4/24 DSI Colloquium with Sociology Department

The joint DSI and Sociology Colloquium will feature Kevin Lewis of UC San Diego, for a talk entitled “The Genesis of Homogeneity in Mating Patterns.” Kevin Lewis is an assistant professor of sociology at the University of California, San Diego. His work examines the formation and evolution of social networks; the principles of human interaction that give rise to global network patterns; and the implications of these processes for the genesis and reproduction of inequality.
