The Global Health Fellows Program (GHFP) II is pleased to announce its call for summer 2017 internship applications with the US Agency for International Development (USAID). We seek candidates in a variety of technical areas who are currently enrolled in:
Their senior year of a bachelor’s degree program or have completed within the past 24 months.
A master’s or doctoral degree program, or have completed within the past 12 months.
GHFP-II Internships provide a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in the global health field, working alongside experienced professionals on health projects of international importance.

Social Entrepreneurship Institute
You may be interested in participating in the upcoming 4th annual Social Entrepreneurship Institute, which will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016, at the Shubert Theater in New Haven, Connecticut. Presented annually by Unite For Sight, the Social Entrepreneurship Institute provides mentoring, guidance, and successful strategies for participants to apply to their work in global health, social entrepreneurship, and international development. In addition to unique interactive sessions by leaders in global health and social entrepreneurship, the Institute also includes a lunch networking reception with the speakers.
Register by October 31st for a 50% reduced registration rate.

African Food and Peace Foundation Annual Dinner and Fundraiser
Aid for Africa is a charity alliance of U.S.-based nonprofits and their African partners working to help children, families, and communities throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.
AFPF’s 2016 Annual Dinner and Fundraiser will be held on November 3 at the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square. The Dinner and Fundraiser will raise funds for the innovative, rural development projects by our partner organizations Uganda Rural Development and Training Program (URDT) and African Rural University (ARU). It will also be a great opportunity for BUSPH students, faculty, and staff to engage with influential female African leadership. The Dinner and Fundraiser will feature guest speaker Her Excellency Oliver Wonekha, the Ugandan Ambassador to the United States. Throughout her career, Ambassador Wonekha has addressed agricultural issues and has been outspoken on education for women and girls. The Dinner and Fundraiser will be held from 6pm to 9pm at the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square at 1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA 02138. Individual tickets are available for purchase here. Registration Open for Swahili Language with a Health Focus Course with Two Levels!
BU’s African Studies Center is offering “Swahili Language with a Health Focus” on the Medical Campus during the SPRING 2017 Semester, at two levels:
- CAS LE529 A1 - Swahili with a Health Focus 1
- CAS LE530 A1 - Swahili with a Health Focus 2 (prerequisite, previous course in Swahili)
This is a fantastic opportunity for MPH and other students on the MED campus who are interested in working in East Africa. The course is offered for 1 credit. Meeting times will be determined based upon when enrolled students are available. (Depending on interest, more than one section may be offered).
This intensive course will be scheduled for 1 hour & 45 minutes, twice a week. The class will focus on providing students with practical speaking, listening, and reading skills that will be useful in conducting fieldwork and will also highlight East African cultural notions of health.
If you are interested in taking the course please register for CAS LE529 or LE530 as soon as possible via student link. Once you have registered, the instructor will communicate with you directly about scheduling. Contact Professor Geofred Osoro at gosoro@bu.edu if you have questions.
NOTES
- Credits from language courses, will not count toward your MPH degree.
- Students taking 12-17 SPH credits can register for this class without additional tuition expense.
