Academic Skill Building

Academic Skills Advising

Do you want to improve your time management, note taking, or other aspects of their daily academic routine? The ERC offers individualized support through Academic Skills Advising. During an Academic Skills Advising appointment, you will meet one-on-one with a professional staff member to hone your study strategies and organizational skills. Students leave their Academic Skills Advising session with a personalized plan for academic success and tangible strategies to use moving forward.

Workshops

Throughout the year, the ERC offers Academic Skills Workshops on a variety of topics, ranging from test taking and test anxiety to reading strategies. For a complete schedule of upcoming workshops, visit the ERC Calendar.

Our professional staff are also available to lead workshops for your student organization! Some of our most popular in-class presentations include Avoiding Plagiarism, Time Management, and Note Taking & Study Skills. Please submit your workshop request at least 10 business days in advance so that our staff can tailor the workshop content to meet your group’s needs.

Communication & Culture

Writing Assistance

With the right help, everyone can become a better writer! ERC Writing Assistance can support you during all stages of the writing process, from brainstorming and outlining, to formatting citations and revising an argument. Our Writing Fellows offer two types of appointments: standard appointments, which are 45 minutes long, and drop-in appointments, which last up to 20 minutes. Visit the Writing Assistance page to learn more and to sign up for an appointment.

Language Link

Our Language Link conversation groups are the perfect opportunity to strengthen and maintain fluency in your non-native languages! Language Link is also an ideal way to connect with peers from across all departments at BU while engaging another culture. We offer a number of languages, including Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, and more. Our English Language Link sessions are very popular with BU international students who want to learn more about American popular and professional culture. Visit the Language Link page to learn more and to sign up for a session.
