Culture of Respect Collective
BU is proud to join the Culture of Respect Collective. BU’s Committee on Sexual Assault & Harassment Prevention (CSAHP) will serve as leaders in this endeavor.
What Is the Collective?
A NASPA initiative, the collective is an ambitious two-year program that brings together higher education institutions and guides them through a rigorous process of self-assessment and targeted organizational change that supports survivors, prevents sexual violence, and communicates that violence is unacceptable. Using an expert-developed public health framework, the collective provides the tools and structure needed to review University practices holistically and truly engage all stakeholders in the work to prevent and respond to sexual misconduct.
Many of our peer institutions have already undergone this evaluation through the collective. Berklee College of Music, Brown, Roger Williams University, and the SUNY system are just some of the nearly 200 colleges and universities that have participated in the collective.
Timeline for the Collective Work
Here is the timeline for our work in the collective:
- Spring 2025: Administer CORE Evaluation to establish a baseline understanding of how well our sexual violence prevention and response strategies align with best practice.
- Summer–Fall 2025: Develop an individualized implementation plan (IIP); receive feedback and revise the IIP.
- Winter 2025–Fall 2026: Implement IIP.
- Winter 2026: Re-administer CORE Evaluation to examine how strategies have changed and improved.
- Continuing: After BU’s time in the collective comes to an end, we will continue to reassess our goals and the needs of our community and recommend changes.
