In Memoriam: Bob Lucas
The Department of Economics celebrates the remarkable career and lasting legacy of Professor Robert (Bob) Lucas, who joined Boston University in 1975. During his time at BU, Bob served as Associate Chair and Director of both the Masters’ and undergraduate programs.
Bob’s research spanned across migration and development, focusing on the dynamics of developing countries. Aside from his 2021 Oxford University Press publication on “Crossing the Divide: Rural Urban Migration in Developing Countries,” he published over 75 papers in leading journals, authored four books, edited three others, and won the Gitner awards for undergraduate teaching twice (1994, 2016).
Bob will be remembered as an exceptional scholar, a dedicated mentor, and a cherished colleague whose legacy will continue to inspire the Economics Department and the BU community as a whole.
