Inclusive Pedagogy Initiative
When it comes to culture, identity, background, and experience, our student body is growing more varied every year. How do we, as teachers, catalyze, foster, and manage conversations in our classrooms that are, of necessity, increasingly complex and multidimensional? It’s clear we have an opportunity—and an obligation—to harness, and build upon, the power of student diversity to expand and deepen teaching and learning in our classrooms, lecture halls, and labs.
To that end, we’re launching the Inclusive Pedagogy Initiative. This new institutional endeavor will engage the multidimensional expertise of our increasingly diverse faculty across many of BU’s 17 schools and colleges. An Inclusive Pedagogy Initiative Working Group is assessing the teaching needs and opportunities at BU and surveying the national landscape for effective practices. In collaboration with BU’s Center for Teaching & Learning, we plan to develop, design, and pilot a multifaceted initiative for the University. By applying a wide variety of pedagogical perspectives to the issue of inclusivity, we hope to inform all teaching at Boston University.
