Catherine Sarkis, JD, MBA
Professor Sarkis teaches courses in Bioethics, Jurisprudence, Health Law, and Risk Management. She is President-elect of the American Society of Dental Ethics, serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of the American College of Dentists, and the ADEA Professional, Ethical, and Legal Issues Section. She is a member of the American Society of Law, Medicine & Ethics, and the Academy for Professionalism in Healthcare.
Overview
This three-hour continuing education course provides dental professionals with a comprehensive overview of ethical principles in dentistry and their application to everyday clinical practice. Both foundational principles and a hierarchical approach to ethical decision-making will be examined, and the core concepts of professionalism and dental ethics will be explored. The course will address common ethical issues faced in dentistry, with an emphasis on the importance of ethical reasoning, self-regulation, and adherence to professional codes as essential elements for fostering patient trust and ensuring high standards of care.

- Identify the fundamental ethical principles and professional codes governing the practice of dentistry.
- Recognize common ethical issues that may arise in patient care, communication, and professional relationships.
